The wind was howling all day, but just as I got to the beach at around 3pm it seemed to drop off so I rigged a 5.7m sail and my big (99ltr) board. I was soon on the water and perfectly powered up for my first run, but then the wind kicked in again along with the mother of all squalls. I held on as best I could expecting the squall to soon pass, but after about half an hour decided it was time to change down to my 5.0m sail and wave board. Luckily, just as I got to the beach, the sun came out and the wind calmed down a little again so I stayed out with the bigger kit. There was a lull for ten minutes or so after I'd been out for about an hour and I was about to give up when once again it picked up and this time stayed at around 18 knots, so I stayed out for another couple of hours in near perfect conditions.

The sun was shining the wind was good and I was making some nice big jumps off the waves close to the beach, and some long floaty jumps off the swells out the back, some of which were just breaking and were well over head height. I'd then make a nice gybe on the face of one of the swells...Sometimes coming out of the gybe much faster than I went into it, before riding the waves back to the beach.

No one else was out, but I still had a really good sail in the end and I'm glad I didn't give up earlier.

I was also using my weird freestyle fin which I have used a couple of times with the Cross on flat water. It performed OK in the waves, making the board much looser on the face of the wave. And, although prone to spinning out when landing a jump the fin is really easy to recover from a spin out.
